Excerpt
“If we marry, I
could get the loan you need and take a small percentage of the income to build
back up our bankroll.” When she appeared to be considering the idea, Frank’s
shoulders relax. “I’d also be there if Morgan came sniffing around.”
Her delicate brows
snapped into a furrowed line, but before she could tell him what he could do
with his protection, he brought up a placating hand. “Now, don’t get all
uppity, Cat. I meant no disrespect.”
She huffed loudly,
then slammed her hands over her eyes as her body began to shake. Hell, now he’d
gone and done it; got her upset to the point of tears.
Guilt crushed down
on him. He didn’t know what to do with a weepy woman. Except kiss her maybe.
And if it’d been any woman besides Cat, he might have tried to calm her that
way. But Miss Catherine Purdue would most likely bite off his tongue if he did.
So instead, he
gripped her arms and pleaded, “Please, Cat. Don’t cry.”
Another tremor shook
her before she lifted her face and stared at him.
Why, she’s not
crying at all.
No, the little vixen
was laughing, her beautiful green eyes sparkling with humor. “Gawd, Frank. Even
when you’re trying to be nice, you’re a jackass.”
