Discussion #24in48 Readathon
I was originally going to do another installment of Project: Re-Shelf Yourself today about how to decide which books to weed out, but with all the stuff about Marie Kondo's methods on Twitter and Instagram and in the blogosphere this past week or so I just couldn't stomach it. Maybe next week. INSTEAD, today I'm going to gush about how excited I am for the #24in48 Readathon next weekend!
"What's the #24in48 Readathon?" you ask! WELL!
#24in48 Readathon is a readathon the takes place over two days, and in that two day span you try to read for 24 hours (thus, #24in48). This year it takes place on January 26-27, 2019, and I'm going up to my best bookish bud Ariel (aka Peekaboo)'s house to spend a glorious weekend reading with her and our pal Annie. (These are also the amazing women I'm going to KissCon with in April!) I'm extra excited to do #24in48 because I'm going to be missing the spring session of Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon this year because it will fall on that same Saturday as KissCon. :/
I'm still trying to decide exactly how I'll track my hours for #24in48. On their page one of the ways they suggest is using the stopwatch on your phone, and that seems like a great idea! That way when I need to take a break I can just hit stop and them resume. I'm a little scared I'll accidentally hit reset though! Ari and I also have MEGA BIG PLANS to hit up the YMCA in her neighborhood for WATER YOGA on Saturday morning (that is apparently a thing!!) and also a water dance fitness class called "WAVE" on Sunday morning. It should be tons of fun! I'm heading up to her place on Friday night so we can cozy in - and get some meal-prep done so we don't need to take time away from reading to cook all weekend!
Here's my #24in48 TBR!
Do you participate in any readathons? What are your faves? Are you planning to do #24in48? If so, are you planning to track your hours (and how??)
#ARCAugust Reading Challenge & Readathon
I keep trying to catch up on the billion and three ARCs I've got piled up, and I stumbled across a mention of ARC August on Twitter.

There will also be a "bingo" element to the month long reading challenge, and the bingo card will be posted on August 1. I might use the bingo card to help direct me with what to read next if I'm feeling stuck. We'll see...
I'm also SUPER PUMPED to see they're hosting a readathon as well!
Discussion: Readathons
Let's talk about readathons!! In the bookish community, readathons are ways for the bookish community to connect and make the very individual sport of reading into a team event. :)
Booktuber Gintare, over at Book Roast created this Harry Potter themed read-a-thon centering around O.W.L's (Ordinary Wizarding Levels, inspired by Harry Potter) which she named the Magical Readathon! The O.W.L.s Magical Readathon runs from April 2nd through April 29th. You can check it out on Twitter at @magicalreadthn and #owlsmagicalreadathon.
Below are the classes or exams:
Pass grades:
Outstanding - sit (and pass) at least 5 OWLs
Exceeds Expectations - sit (and pass) at least 3 OWLs
Acceptable - sit (and pass) at least 2 OWLs
Fail grades:
Poor - si tonly one OWL
Dreadful - start but not finish any OWLs tasks
Troll - do not show up at your OWLs examinations
Here are the OWL exams I am sitting:
Now some of you are probably cursing me out, because this readathon is right up your alley and now there are only 11 days left. WHY DIDN'T I TELL YOU SOONER?! I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Here is another upcoming readathon it's not too late to get in on!
This year's Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon takes place on April 28th, and is a 24 hour reading blitz where you dedicate 24 hours of your life to reading, reading, reading! (And, y'know, snacks. Because yum.) This year I'm very excited to be doing Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon with friends. We're hiding away at Ariel's cabin (whom you may also know from her monthly "Peekaboo's Corner" guest posts here) and yes, everyone sits in this cabin surrounded by stacks of books and just reads independently. Oh, and everyone brings snacks to share! Snacks are a vital part of Dewey's, you know. There are also fun mini challenges and reading blitzes on various blogs and social media sites, including a Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon group on Goodreads and the Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon Facebook group.
Now tell me about you! Do you participate in Readathons? Are there recurring ones you love to do? How do you find your readathons?
