I just recently started a "Bookstagram." I never really understood the point of Instagram before - who wants to look at a bunch of artsy pictures of people's food? Then I found out that there's a whole community of people who post picture of BOOKS on there, and BOY HOWDY, I reactivated my account in a snap!
I've read a lot of great how-to type of posts by Paper Fury, including this one about how to photograph ebooks, that have been so valuable. Her photos are always so beautiful! (And I am so jealous of her very rainbow-iffic bookshelves!) Do you know of any other blogs, how to's, or tools to help the beginning Bookstagrammer? I'd love to hear about them!
I'm still developing my style and aesthetic. Here are a couple of my first tries at bookstagramming. What do you think? I think I'm slooooowly getting better. The top left photo is of my Kindle Oasis and I used Paper Fury's how to on photographing ebooks to insert the cover into my photo! :) I read so many egalleys, it's great to have an option to photograph them!!
What do you think of Instagram? Are you more excited about the Bookstagram side of it? Are there particular accounts you follow that really inspire you?
I'd love if you'd leave a link to your own Bookstagram (if you have one) in the comments so I can check it out! :) Here's the link to my Insta if you want to check me out, too. :)

I love your photos! I just followed you :)
ReplyDeleteI love Instagram, and especially Bookstagram, but I’m so up and down with it. I’ve had my account for ages, and keep getting really into it and then abandoning it for a few months. I recently decided I hated all my old photos too and deleted them all, so my account looks pretty sparse right now.
I do love that there’s a community out there on Instagram for book lovers though, as I have to say I never got Instagram really either until I discovered Bookstagram. I have very little interest in looking at arty pictures of people’s food either. It just makes me hungry! :)
Yay, thanks for your nice comment. :) I also had a few photos on my "old" account (mostly of food and pets...) and I'd post, like, once every three months or something, haha. I deleted almost all my old photos to start over as a totally bookish account. I can definitely see being really hot and cold with it. It's hard work to get pretty, interesting pictures that are not all basically the same look!! (And looking at pictures of people's good also makes me hungry, haha!)
DeleteGreat photos! I got my first Instagram account last December, but I’m still kind of baffled by Instagram. Some people are really good at it, but I’d rather spend my time reading blogs than looking at photos.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It's definitely taking time I could be reading to take (and edit) these photos! But I felt that way about blogging at first too, and now I really love this added layer to reading. The blogs I follow are kind of all over the place (email, Bloglovin', other feeds...) and it's nice to be able to go to one place and just quickly scroll through to see what's new on Insta. :)
DeleteI love using Bookstagram! When I was a newbie it was so intimidating and I just couldn't find my own niche egh. Kindles are a bit hard to photograph but Paper Fury's tips really helped with it! Now, I've found the kind of photos I like to take so that's really exciting!

Thank the good Lord for Paper Fury's tips!! I *may* have just spent too much money on fancy fake flowers for the express purpose of photos... LOL
DeleteJust gave you a follow on Instagram. I'm not great at pretty bookish photos, but I try!

Thanks for the follow! :) I'm not great either, but I'm figuring out what works for me slowly by trial and error. ...Mostly error, lol.
DeleteYour photos are amazing. I've had some trouble learning how to take great photos of books, and I'm not sure what to write in the description. I guess what bothers me is the clean-up that comes with unearthing all the possible props for books I want to take pictures of. I bookstagram at @catonthebookshelf.
